Give Yourself the Gift of Movement

The Gary Rosenthal Glass Ribbon Project

Since its inception in 2005, The Glass Ribbon Project has been a catalyst for using art to do good and promote healing in the face of adversity. Conceived as a way for the community to rally around loved ones fighting against breast cancer, individuals, groups, and organizations have participated in the free program as both a fundraiser and friendraiser.

Gary Rosenthal Glass Ribbon Project donates strength stones to 2Unstoppable
by Michelle Stravitz

When I was undergoing treatment for triple-negative breast cancer in 2015, a close friend gave me the gift of a strength stone from the Gary Rosenthal Glass Ribbon Project.  Strength stones are small pieces of fused glass, in pink & white (breast cancer) or purple & white (pancreatic cancer and other women’s cancers).  The stone meant a lot to me, as I adore fused glass artwork from The Gary Rosenthal Studio.  I had worked closely with Gary on a project years ago and, most importantly, Gary personifies the very strength, optimism, and zest and joy for life that is so needed during cancer treatment. In fact, Gary is currently undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer and exudes a positive attitude! I held that pink & white strength stone when I lost my hair to chemotherapy, at my first chemo infusion, heading into surgery, scans, and radiation, and waiting for many test results along the way. I carried it with me in my purse through every day of treatment, and sometimes, when I needed just a bit of extra strength to get through the day, I reached down, felt the smooth glass, and absorbed the strength that came with it.

Years later, I am thrilled that 2Unstoppable is partnering with Gary Rosenthal and The Glass Ribbon Project to provide strength stones to our community.  At 2Unstoppable we are all about helping women get through and beyond one of the most difficult challenges of their lives with strength.  2Unstoppable appreciates an in-kind donation from The Glass Ribbon Project: a generous supply of strength stones in pink, purple & white that we can provide to women within our community going through new challenges, and a grant to cover postage.  Together with The Glass Ribbon Project, 2Unstoppable hopes to reduce the feeling of isolation that often comes with a cancer diagnosis, a feeling that is only exacerbated during these challenging times of Covid-19.  I know, from personal experience, the feeling of caring and strength that one of these unique pieces of smooth glass can bring in the most difficult moments. We hope that these strength stones will provide women with additional inspiration, support, and just a bit more strength that may be needed to get through the day.

2Unstoppable is so grateful to The Glass Ribbon Project for this partnership, and for the caring, outreach, and STRENGTH that we will share, together.
